Assignment Book : This year, in an effort to improve communication, your child will have a student assignment book. Your child is to write his/her assignments and projects in it. It will also note assignments that are missing and need to be completed. Mrs. O or I will initial it each afternoon. I am asking that you look at it each day and sign it. If your child spends time with a parent at a different household, I would like that parent to sign it too. It is my hope that this will facilitate communication and improve organization skills.

Homework Expectations : This year I will be trying something new. State Standards suggest 10 minutes of homework per grade level. This means that 4 th graders are expected to spend 40 minutes on homework each night and 5 th graders are expected to spend 50 minutes on homework each night. I am expecting 20 of those minutes to be spent reading. The remaining time is for the daily math homework. Every Monday your child will receive a spelling list. There will be a spelling test on Friday. You and your child can choose how to study for the test. There will not be a spelling packet.

Communication : I will have a web page on the web site this year. I will be updating it on Fridays. If you have any questions, please contact me here at school by e-mail nstehno@gsinet.net , send a note or call at 495-3463 . I am generally at school by 8:00 am .
